🌟 Note to all you gremlins that are taking the liberty to read this
If you’re the same kind of psychopath that I am, the first thing you Google when you hear about something horrific is who did it? Who are they? What’s their story? That’s because people care less about things and ideas, and more about the people behind them.
Welcome to the first edition of Founders You’ve Never Heard Of - where we take a dive into learning about Founders that you probably have never heard of. We talk about what these individuals are building of course, but really, the goal is to get to know the human behind the magic. So stay tuned for the magic.

The Man
Troy Munson - Highlights
He’s the type of guy you wanna slam beers with. Just an overall stud in every facet of life. There’s a lot of people out there that others respect for different things - people might respect Elon for his money and drive, Justin Bieber for the fame, Sydney Sweeney for all sorts of reasons. But when you take these people holistically, you wouldn’t trade lives with any of them. Cause the whole picture aint pretty. Troy is one of the few people I’ve gotten to talk with that, I truly respect in every facet. He's got a great family life, a thriving podcast and business, and is just super easy to get along with. Here's some takeaways from my hour long convo with Mr Troy Munson.
His things: Founder of Dimmo.ai , Refurl (acquired), Two Dad’s in Tech Podcast, Vocul
Location: Madison, WI
Best Startup Story: Started a podcast to pay for daycare - ended up turning into a $50k/mo business
Fun Fact: Believes golf and drinking craft beer is god’s gift to earth (i’m kidding but we do both love those things
Can’t spell: His companies are named Dimmo (pronounced Demo), Refurl (pronounced Referral) etc… also kidding again, love u Troy
🚀 Troy’s Story - The High-Level
I said this above, But Troy is legit. Incredibly charismatic, driven, and helpful to a youngin like myself.
Before building dimmo.ai , he was an enterprise AE at a company called Proofpoint, selling some complicated things to complicated people. Or at least that was my impression
And throughout the process of being an employee than turning into a founder, he documented the whole thing on LinkedIn.
I asked him about a year ago why he was posting like a madman, and he said “Idk what I’m going to build, but I know when the time comes that I figure that out, I’ll have the audience to do so”
So, when Dimmo.ai launched about 2yrs ago, you can imagine it went BERZERK
and berzerk it went
On launch day they drove hundreds of thousands of visitors to the site, and added mid 5 figures in revenue in the first week
Wild shit

🏆 The Golden Nugs
1️⃣ Audience = leverage
I asked Troy straight up - “would you have been able to build Dimmo without the LinkedIn audience?”
You see where this is going.
LinkedIn alone drove hundreds of thousands of people to the site in week one. So many people that it crashed their site if I remember correctly.
Along those lines, marketplaces are f*cking hard. Like really hard. Not a job for a first time entrepreneur. And it takes a crazy amount of people and traffic to make marketplaces work. dimmo.ai and Acquire.com are good example of how marketplaces can thrive, but only if the founder is driving an insane amount of traffic through socials.
The one thing you’ll notice with Troy and Andrew (founder of Acquire) they both have over 40k followers.
Safe to say they’ve done their jobs
“If I didn’t have an audience, there’s no chance I’d have started Dimmo.”
2️⃣ ROI and brand building
I’m not supposed to say this, but I think measuring ROI and KPI’s for brand building is a little bit trying to guess how so meone smells over zoom. You can probably get a decent idea, but you’re never really gonna know.
That analogy was garbage, but the point is, it’s really hard to measure the third order effects of building a brand on LinkedIn.
We riffed on this for a bit, cause it’s easy to ask: but what do i get from posting on LinkedIn? When am I gonna see results?
Here’s the truth:
He’s met cofounders through the platform
Got intros to growth channels and influential people like Scott Leese and plenty of others
Built a monetizable podcast
Generated 90%+ of Dimmo’s traffic from it
...and even pays for daycare off of brand deals for Two Dad’s In Tech.
“It’s the only platform where posting consistently for a week could change your life and you won’t even know it yet.”
Long story short, pretty much 95%+ of Troy’s business - from Dimmo, to Two Dad’s in Tech, to brand deals, have all come from spending the time to post and engage on LinkedIn.
I feel like I’m beating a dead horse here, but we harped on this a lot.

3️⃣ Hype is a superpower
Troy didn’t call himself a genius founder or some elite product mind.
When I asked his “superpower,” he said:
“I’m really good at mirroring people and getting them genuinely excited about what’s possible.”
Kind of a weird super power, but super effective. Just goes to show that you, especially now, can build a business doing fucking anything. Just make sure you’re building something around your skillset. Something that feels like play to you, but work to others.
If you don’t follow him on LinkedIn, do yourself a favor and check him out
If you’ve made it this far, thank you. From the bottom of my heart. Hope to see ya next week
Cheers
